STR4TA

STR4TA is the collaborative jazz-funk project from Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, rooted in a shared passion for the energy and soul of early British jazz-funk. Born from a friendship spanning over 30 years, the project channels the era’s raw groove and dancefloor vitality while bringing a fresh, contemporary perspective.

Their debut album Aspects combines live musicianship with pulsing basslines, punchy drums, falsetto vocals, electric piano, synth, and horns, balancing warmth, spontaneity, and funk. STR4TA bridges past and present: Bluey contributes decades of experience from bands like Incognito, Light of the World, and Freeez, while Peterson brings his deep musical knowledge and sensitivity to what moves audiences today.

The project is not nostalgia for its own sake, but a conversation across time — celebrating the heritage of Brit-funk while reimagining its possibilities for the present.
